Verbalizing lexical affixes in Takituduh Bunun

Abstract
This paper discusses the grammatical and semantic properties of
verbalizing lexical affixes in Takituduh Bunun (Austronesian, Taiwan), arguing that
these lexical affixes are the overt realization of the category-assigning head v, while the
nominal stems of these lexical prefixes are reduced nPs, rather than full DPs. The paper
describes the argument structure and transitivity pattern of these verbalizing lexical
affixes and the modifiability and referentiality of the nominal stems. The findings
presented here highlight need for more detailed empirical investigations into the topic
across languages and for typological work into the structure of verbalizing lexical
affixes.
