S.T.A.R. Design - Design of human habitats for space, and terrestrial implications

Abstract
The S.T.A.R. Design Studio (Space and Terrestrial Architectural Research) studies pre-industrial habitats in i.a. Tanzania, and develops design concepts for future habitats in space in cooperation with Johnson Space Centre, Houston, Texas. In both cases our studies focus on "extreme" circumstances. Perhaps studying the conditions of a crew sealed in a capsule can better prepare us for the problems of sustainable planning for the future. By examining and comparing different types of housing and societies we can learn to understand the "architectural space" where function, flow and movement in time combine to shape objects and space. Could a new approach and a new language help to build the urban environments of the future. The S.T.A.R.... (More)

Design studio is focused on what architecture and design do, rather than what they are or used to be. We perceive design as a tool for change and that change must be guided by a visionary approach.
