- One of the main reasons why we have failed to reach a sustainable development is due to the narrow focus on Gross Domestic Product (GDP) as the main development indicator. The sparsity of alternative indicators has created a misleading impression for policy makers, and society as a whole, about sustainability. In order to fulfil the new challenges of the Anthropocene we propose a widespread adoption and use of alternative development indicators such as Genuine Savings.
