Arana Aristi, Teresa LU and Karvonen, Andrew LU (2025) In Urban Arena Testbeds Report

Client-Based Teaching provides multiple opportunities for students and teachers in the built environment disciplines (Architecture, Urban Design, Landscape Architecture, and Planning) to engage with real world problems in the classroom setting. This document provides a short introduction to Client-Based Teaching and then summarises the various ways that it is practiced through Design Studios, Service Learning, Collaborative Studios, Live Projects, and Design-Build Studios. These approaches have many similarities while also providing distinct ways for students, teachers, and clients to engage in collaborative forms of problem-solving... (More)
