Abstract
This quantitative study investigates the relationship between private sector dynamics and regional economic growth in Poland from 2002 to 2022. Using official data from the Central Statistical Office (GUS), it analyzes GDP per capita and net new firm registrations across 16 voivodeships, combining descriptive statistics, β- and σ-convergence analyses, and panel regression models. The convergence tests reveal no evidence of regional catch-up. Bivariate regressions suggest a positive association between net firm creation and GDP per capita; however, this relationship becomes statistically insignificant when regional fixed effects, year dummies, and population controls are applied. These findings indicate that factors other than private... (More)

Bivariate regressions suggest a positive association between net firm creation and GDP per capita; however, this relationship becomes statistically insignificant when regional fixed effects, year dummies, and population controls are applied. These findings indicate that factors other than private sector development have likely played a greater role in shaping regional economic performance. The results also suggest there is untapped potential in strengthening the private sector’s contribution to balanced territorial growth in Poland. (Less)
