Abstract (Swedish)
(Less)
Abstract
During the late Triassic period several global environmental changes took place, including climate instability, and the most distinctive one was the biotic extinction at the Norian – Rhaetian boundary (NRB). Large carbonate platforms were established along the Tethys ocean and periodically exported carbonate sediments to the adjacent ocean floor, and especially at the bathyal depth.
Petrographic analysis of eleven samples from six density flow deposits in the Orbuklukeli-section in the Tavuscayiri-block, Mersin Mélange, southern Turkey, was carried out to interpret their local source area and transport mechanisms. The results of petrographic and carbonate microfacies analysis indicate that the recurrent density flow deposits were sourced... Popular Abstract
Let us travel back to the Late Triassic when dinosaurs first started to appear and where the climate had extreme mega-monsoons that created a world with seasonal rain periods. While dinosaurs and mega-monsoons is greatly documented we lack many pieces of the puzzle to understand the Late Triassic and what events took place 208 million years ago that changed our oceans forever. Density-flows is something that could open a door into this grand mystery.
