- Green IT is a concept that is being used more frequently in environmental work, which the municipality of Lund also has the ambition to work with (TCO Development, 2012b). The purpose of the essay is to investigate how the concept is interpreted and what actions within the municipalities IT-work can be related to Green IT. Furthermore the purpose is to investigate how the municipality of Lund’s interpretation and work relates to other actors and academic literature’s interpretation and work related to the concept. Both a literature study, an empirical study and two GAP-analyses were performed in order to investigate what future actions could be done or how to improve current actions regarding Green IT.

The results indicate that, despite the lack of a standardized concept of Green IT, the municipality of Lund have introduced or plan to introduce multiple IT-actions related to both the respondents of the empirical studies interpretation of Green IT as well as other actors work and recommendations. However, there are a few flaws regarding both communications, monitoring and introduced IT-actions which result in a Green IT work that isn’t as successful as some other municipalities. Due to these flaws the municipality of Lund has yet to reach the same level as the other municipalities and recommendations that authorities and organizations give. By introducing an active work with Green IT the municipality has the ability to reach Best practice. This essay can provide as support in producing an action plan, strategies and both general and detailed goals related to Green IT, which contributes in implementing an active Green IT work in the municipality of Lund.
