Abstract (Swedish)
(More)

Abstract
The purpose of the thesis is to study how teachers work to motivate their students and what the students perceive as motivating. This is done by interviewing students who have had a music teacher who has been a significant motivation source for them.
The study is done using semi-structured interviews, and is based on motivation categories that were clear in previous research. Through the method, the informants have been able to focus more or less on different areas, such as autonomy or goals, depending on what the teacher worked the most with and what the student perceived as more or less motivating.
The conclusion is that teacher-student relationships are important to create space for motivation. Something that all of the students who... (More)

The conclusion is that teacher-student relationships are important to create space for motivation. Something that all of the students who are being interviewed says is that it is important for their motivation that they have commited teachers. Autonomy was also important, but often something that the student himself or herself learned. The students who learned this could easily move on in their own learning process and could feel that they themselves owned their knowledge. (Less)
