Abstract
Resting upon the 4-decades long multidisciplinary research interest in the phenomenon of
burnout, it is commonly agreed that its scope goes far beyond just individual problem area.
Burnout is a serious problem enough to have an impact over the long-term organizational
environment and labor productivity in the entire economy. It gains particular relevance in
light of the current policy and research debates in Sweden that are centered around working
conditions as determinants of economic outcomes. The case in point is the Organizational and

Burnout is a serious problem enough to have an impact over the long-term organizational
environment and labor productivity in the entire economy. It gains particular relevance in
light of the current policy and research debates in Sweden that are centered around working
conditions as determinants of economic outcomes. The case in point is the Organizational and
Social Environment Regulations that is directly targeting work related un-health at the
organizational level. A part of this study relies upon the well-established theoretical
framework adopted by Maslach to conceptualize the diversity of causes, manifestations, and
implications of job burnout in organizational settings. Thus, this study maintains that in order
to enhance the effectiveness of regulatory frameworks in the area of occupational burnout,
firm attention needs to be placed on good management, effective collaboration and
communication within the organization, as well as organizational objectives and strategies
aimed at a continuous promotion of engagement instead of a solution-oriented approach
aimed at problem solving in the midst of a crises. Relying on the analysis of various
theoretical perspectives, as well as employees’ perception of the work environment
regulations implementation in their workplaces, it is established that prioritizing the working
environment is beneficial for professionals and the society at large. Furthermore, it is
important to promote awareness that burnout prevention makes economic sense in the long
run and developing strategies for maintaining engagement in the workplace is the
responsibility of all the parties involved in the work environment. (Less)
