Abstract (Swedish)
(More)

Abstract
Writing music has always been an important part of my life. I wrote my first song when I was eight years old and since then, making music has been a huge part of me as a musician. Working with children has also been something that I have found interesting but I have always felt like I did not have sufficient knowledge to do so. I have also wondered if the current way to make music for young children is the best possible way or if there is a better way to go about it. The purpose of this study was to observe how the process of making music is affected by using studies of children's musical development ages four to six as a framework. A search of relevant literature concerning songwriting in general as well as children's musical development... (More)

The purpose of this study was to observe how the process of making music is affected by using studies of children's musical development ages four to six as a framework. A search of relevant literature concerning songwriting in general as well as children's musical development was performed. The literature I have found. Findings from the studies were then adopted as frames and restrictions for the songwriting process. Results suggest that the process of making music benefitted from the frames and restrictions. Inspiration, productivity and creativity were all impacted positively by working with this method. In conclusion, the process of making music was been improved. Based on these findings, it may be argued that it would be relevant to incorporate songwriting for children as a formal part of teacher training at The Malmö Academy of Music, both for us as songwriters but also for us as teachers.
