Abstract (Swedish)
(More)

(Less)

The background of the study was the aspects of that I had been given a few rare moments to gain experiences in teaching students with disabilities during my studies to become a music teacher. But also that education for students with disabilities may be characterized by focusing on caregiving. The questions that this study aimed to answer was: How does the students feel about their music education and their opportunities to develop their musical skills? How are the students given the opportunities to develop their musical skills based on their own qualifications? How is the balance between caregiving and artistic focus in the music education? The study was designed by two observations of music lessons and four interviews with students from a special needs upper secondary school in Skåne. The study shows that the school had valuable resources for the benefit of the student’s musical development and the music education had an artistic focus. In the interviews, the students expressed different experiences about their opportunities to develop their musical skills. The results were discussed in terms of the design of the teaching, the access to individual instrumental education and the way the teacher were aiming towards artistic quality. In conclusion, the study indicates that more research is needed in this subject. (Less)
