Abstract (Swedish)
(More)

(Less)
Abstract
The purpose of the study is to investigate how collaborative music creation works in the progressive doom-metal band At Cycles' End, and thereby to deepen the knowledge of how the creative process works between the group-members, how ideas are judged and valued, how the communication works and what benefits the video documentation of the rehearsals gives to the creators and this scholarly reflection. The study has a qualitative focus, through action research and participatory observation, conducted with video documentation during five rehearsal sessions. The literature highlights areas that concern collaboration, how ideas are created, how ideas and progress during the rehearsals are saved and developed, and which social factors affect the... (More)

The study has a qualitative focus, through action research and participatory observation, conducted with video documentation during five rehearsal sessions. The literature highlights areas that concern collaboration, how ideas are created, how ideas and progress during the rehearsals are saved and developed, and which social factors affect the collaboration. The results show that the video documentation is useful on several levels, partly as an idea bank and partly as a tool to improve the creative process. The study also shows existing, complementary differences between the participants in the study, differences of which the participants were not aware before the study was performed. How and when the members of the band evaluate and value musical ideas play a major role in the productivity and the experienced quality of the musical ideas. (Less)
