Abstract (Swedish)
(More)

(Less)
Abstract
The aim of the thesis is to investigate conceptions of teacher identity among upper secondary school music teachers. Furthermore, the study aims to explore which factors contribute to the construction of music teachers’ professional identity. The investigation was conducted using a qualitative method. Semi-structured interviews were carried out with five qualified upper secondary school music teachers. Empirical data, which form the basis for the analysis and findings, consist of audio recordings and transcriptions. The results indicate that the teachers’ conceptions of professional identity can be categorized into four themes: (1) the music teacher as team leader, (2) the music teacher as practitioner, (3) the music teacher as specialist,... Furthermore, the findings suggest that the teachers’ professional identities have been formed by several factors. These factors include the teachers’ own previous experience of being a music pupil and subsequently a university music student, as well as the teachers’ experience of being a professional music teacher. The findings will add to the knowledge base of studies on teacher identity and have particular relevance for music teacher education institutions and pre- and in-service music teachers. (Less)
