- "Among Masters and Mentors" is a thesis which aims to investigate how four composition teachers in college preparatory music education programs view their teaching compared to their craftmanship as composers. The study has a special focus on the independent practice of composition and examines how the teachers themselves practice and which aspects of this they wish to transfer into their teaching. - "Among Masters and Mentors" is a thesis which aims to investigate how four composition teachers in college preparatory music education programs view their teaching compared to their craftmanship as composers. The study has a special focus on the independent practice of composition and examines how the teachers themselves practice and which aspects of this they wish to transfer into their teaching. To give concrete examples of the effects of different working methods, the interview study has been supplemented with an artistic study in which the author Daniel Möllås - also a trained composer in the bachelor’s and master’s program at Malmö Academy of Music - examines his own composition work and shows the effects of different approaches to creation and practice. The theoretical framework is based on a socio-cultural perspective with scaffolding as a recurring concept, which is also being compared with the theory of mastery and specifically it’s focus on imitation. The results show composition as a craft that can be divided into two parts: the technical craft that is closely associated with mastery, and the creative craft that is close to the principle of scaffolding. The final goal aims towards that the composer should be able to reach a stage where he/she creates his/her own rules and frames in his/her work, that is self-scaffolding. (Less)

- "Bland mästare och mentorer" är ett examensarbete som syftar till att undersöka hur fyra kompositionslärare på högskoleförberedande musikutbildningar beskriver sin undervisning i relation till sitt hantverk som tonsättare/kompositörer. Studien har ett särskilt fokus på det självständiga övandet i komposition och undersöker hur lärare själva gör och vad av detta som de vill omsätta till undervisningen. Resultatet visar på att komposition som hantverk behöver delas upp i två delar: det tekniska hantverket som är nära förknippat med mästarläran och det kreativa hantverket som står nära scaffolding-principen. Det slutgiltiga målet är att tonsättaren/kompositören kan nå ett stadium där hen skapar egna regelverk och stöttor i sitt arbete, det vill säga self-scaffolding. (Less)
