Based on the theoretical framework by Kahn (1990), questions related to the employees’ psychological meaningfulness, psychological safety and psychological availability were asked to further investigate the psychological conditions of engagement at work. Thirteen semi-structured interviews were conducted with employees in a Swedish government agency. The results showed that the participants regarded their work engagement as high and could not immediately see that organizational changes had affected their work engagement. However, organizational changes seemed to have had some impact on the employees’ psychological conditions of engagement and their engagement in the organization. To reduce the risk of any declines in engagement, the organization should make sure to involve the employees by listening to their opinions regarding change initiatives and how they have affected or will affect their work.
