Abstract
‘Have you completed the ear training homework?’ is a qualitative interview study on teachers’ and students’ thoughts about ear training. In the study, 7 students and 6 teachers from different forms and levels of education were interviewed. The research questions of the study address topics such as how ear training exercises and strategies can be translated from the classroom to the practice room, students ́ possibilities for self-dependent practicing, and what attitudes teachers and students have towards the subject of ear training. The study's results show that ear training exercises during lessons develop students' metacognitive skills when the teacher shares their own thought process. Results also indicate that time constraints or... (More)

Results also indicate that time constraints or overestimation of the students’ abilities are problematic in ear training lessons for various reasons. The results also show that there are many factors to consider when planning for ear training teaching, such as knowledge assessment, student influence, and clarity in teaching, which all affect the lesson's design. Abstract (Swedish)
(More)
