Abstract (Swedish)

(Less)
Abstract
The purpose of this study has been to examine what methods within the subject that can be useful for music teachers working mainly in compulsory school for pupils with intellectual disabilities, as well as to deepen our knowledge of how music therapy is used by music therapists at work in different areas. Our question at issue has been to examine what positive effects music therapy has, what view working music therapists have of the use of methods used in music therapy in adapted primary school and if there are any differences between music therapy in health care and education, and finally what aspects of music therapy that are possible to combine with the central content and/or the curriculum.

We have taken part of scientific literature, both internationally and Swedish.
We have chosen to use qualitative interviews as the method of research, where we have completed three semi-structured interviews with three legitimized music therapists working within either adapted primary school or within health care. From the results of our study, we have had the impression that there are different approaches to the subject and how it is used within health care and the educational system. However, the results of these interviews also showed a consistent holistic view where methods used in music therapy can be very useful in the adapted primary school, but where their viewpoints were also divided at some points.
Our conclusion is that there is a large potential for music teachers to use working methods found in music therapy in adapted education, but also within regular teaching. (Less)
