Abstract
Over the past few years the rights of LGBTQI-people have been globally at risk because of a phenomenon called the “anti-gender campaign”. This campaign can even be traced back to Sweden and to libraries with the debate regarding Drag Story Hour back in 2022, that led to a national debate about the role of public libraries.

This thesis aims to bring knowledge about the influence that different LGBTQ-trainings have both for the librarian and the library’s work. The research material was gathered in 10 semi-structured interviews with 10 public library librarians from the region of Scania in Sweden. The material was then thematically analyzed with queer theory and radical democracy theory.

The study shows that librarians have a positive experience of LGBTQ-trainings and find these trainings helpful to actively question norms that can be present in the library’s daily work, such as the language that the librarian uses when they encounter a new user or the symbols that are shown in the library. Nowadays there are free LGBTQ-trainings that allow smaller libraries to access this type of educational norm critical content. Despite this the study shows that regardless of the librarian’s positive experience there’s still room left for improvement when it comes to these types of trainings. (Less)
