A flexible wavelet filter structure for cardiac pacemakers: a power efficient implementation

Rodrigues, Joachim LU ; Öwall, Viktor LU and Sörnmo, Leif LU (2004) IEEE International Workshop on Biomedical Circuits and Systems (BioCAS) p.1-8
Abstract
This paper describes the modification of a wavelet based event detector for cardiac pacemakers with improved power efficiency. A previously published R-wave detector has been supplemented with a noise detector that operates in supervision mode, and automatically activates and deactivates parts of the detector. Simulation results show that the power consumption in an ASIC core can be reduced by more than 65% if the patient is at rest or in a low-noise environment, whereas reliable detection performance is sustained at moderate to high noise levels. The detector has been synthesized in 0.13 μm CMOS technology
