Abstract
When inspecting the currently known pulsar population one finds a velocity distribution which is in constrast to the galactic rotation curve. This has lead researchers to believe that the pulsars receive
linear momentum (a kick) at the SN event which produces these. In this work we try and see what can be learned about these kicks by studying the existing double neutron star binary population. We investigate
the possible progenitors to these and study their implications for the possible kicks. Furthermore we conduct a population synthesis and extrapolate from the statistics given by the current double neutron
star population what is implied statistically regarding the angular kick distribution. We find that the population in fact... (More)

star population what is implied statistically regarding the angular kick distribution. We find that the population in fact implies a non-isotropic distribution with preference towards the orbital plane and we argue that the currently published kick probability distribution functions are too biased towards higher kick velocities.
