The empirical context for this thesis is The Swedish Transport Administration, specifically Business area Traffic management, and include change processes that affect traffic control centres including road and rail traffic management. Traffic management, monitoring traffic and infrastructure facilities and providing information about the traffic situation, is a key societal function to ensure functioning travel and transportation in Sweden.

The interview study focuses on how managers and employees perceive the change context and how managers and employees adapt change processes to the context.
This thesis makes important contributions, both theoretical and practical, to a research area benefiting society. The theoretical contribution concerns context and context adaptation within traffic management. The practical implications include a framework for context adaptation that may be useful for change management practitioners within traffic management and corresponding contexts.
