Abstract
Product design requirements are becoming more and more complex, while the number of available materials is increasing. Polymeric materials are still dominant in many applications, replacing other manufacturing materials. Gears are one of the mechanical parts that are increasingly made of plastic. To effectively replace metal materials, the design process and product material must meet all application requirements, including the injection molding process. The injection molding process offers a variety of specific possibilities, but also certain limitations. When manufacturing gears, it is crucial to know all the necessary requirements to ensure the quality of the manufacturing process and the end product. The biggest challenge in the injection molding of gears is to ensure the quality of the teeth. The overall accuracy of injection molded gears depends on the simulation of the injection molding process, the structural design and manufacturing of the injection mold, the properties of the polymer material, the design of the product (gear), and the manufacturing (injection molding process). Regardless of the quality of the polymer material or the design of the product (gear), it is not possible to produce a precise gear with an incorrectly designed mold or incorrect parameters for the injection molding process.
