Eko

Tullberg, Markus LU (2025)
Abstract
Eko was a sound installation made to the art exhibition Öppen visning (May 2025 in Lund, Sweden). The exhibition was set in an apartment for sale and combined the works of several artists.
The work uses sounds generated and recorded in the apartment, a 1950’s radio program, and a text borrowed from a visual artwork by Lars Embäck which is also part of the exhibition. The sound installation is accompanied by a reflective text, animated by the following question:
How can a sound installation in an apartment be created, which facilitates an immersive listening experience by drawing upon the spatial potential of aural perception while creating an atmosphere inspired by Heidegger’s concept of unheimlich?
The first of the two main... (More)

The first of the two main sections deals with spatiality and sound. By using principles from binaural recording technique, the headphone audio is meant to create an experience of hearing actual sounds from the kitchen and doors closing. The other section focuses on the two texts and the creation of an uncanny, stressful sensation.
