Dynamic response of diagonal laminated timber : Parameter studies and modelling approaches
(2025) p.1982-1989- Abstract
- The paper provides an overview and preliminary results from ongoing research with the aim to evolve cross-laminated timber (CLT) into the next generation of Tailored Laminated Timber (TLT). This is done by exploring innovative concepts that optimize the mechanical performance, while simultaneously ensuring adherence to circular economy principles. The current study aims at investigating the potential in terms of Diagonal Laminated Timber (DLT), where adjacent layers are oriented at a non-orthogonal direction relative to each other. Finite element parame-ter studies were performed, showing differences in dynamic behaviour for DLT compared to CLT. The study high-lights the potential of using DLT as a means of tailoring the vibration... (More)

The study high-lights the potential of using DLT as a means of tailoring the vibration performance. In addition, the paper discusses strength and weaknesses of different modelling approaches, with special emphasis on choice of element types and the detailed modelling of non-edge glued laminations.
