Adverbs and functional categories in L1 and L2 acquisition of French
(2005)- Abstract
- In this study, we will show that children, in their 2L1 acquisition, begin with the adverbs from the lower part of the hierarchy, and start using their higher level adverbs clearly later on, which seems to support a Structure Building Model. Inversely, we will show that adult L2 learners, even from the very earliest stages of acquisition, use the adverbs from the highest levels, which indicates that they have access to the entire set of FCs and seems to support the Strong Continuity Hypothesis.
