- Understanding complex and shifting institutional frameworks has long been relevant to social work research. Now more than ever, this is brought to a head by the new Social Services Act that emphasizes early social work interventions that take place on a voluntary basis and with trust as a foundation, while other parts of social work are characterized by control and discipline. - Understanding complex and shifting institutional frameworks has long been relevant to social work research. Now more than ever, this is brought to a head by the new Social Services Act that emphasizes early social work interventions that take place on a voluntary basis and with trust as a foundation, while other parts of social work are characterized by control and discipline. In the “Take Away-study”, we have followed the practical implementation of Individual Placement and Support (IPS), a recovery-based approach to return to work for people with mental illness who wish to work. IPS practices equality and trust in the strengths of the individual, which is in stark contrast to many of the institutional frameworks within/through which IPS is realized article builds on 26 interviews with professionals working to realize IPS. Our research provides good examples of interventions that wrestle with and against shifting, often counteracting, institutional logics. The analysis shows how logics of recovery characterized by equality and trust can be stifled but also survive in practical contexts that are predominantly framed by control and discipline. Successful implementation of preventive interventions needs to phase out (de-implement) established ways of working that are based on essentially different logics. These findings are relevant for understanding possible pitfalls and strategies of social work within shifting institutional frameworks, especially such shifting frames that may counteract one another. En framgångsrik implementering av förebyggande insatser kräver att etablerade arbetssätt som bygger på väsentligt annorlunda logiker fasas ut (avimplementeras). Dessa resultat är relevanta för att förstå möjliga fallgropar och strategier inom socialt arbete i skiftande institutionella ramverk, särskilt sådana skiftande ramar som kan motverka varandra.
