Abstract (Swedish)
(More)

(Less)
Abstract
This study aims to deepen the knowledge about vocal education strategies on girls'
vocal development during adolescence. In addition, the purpose is to highlight what
girls themselves experience and can describe about their own adolescent voice change.
The background to the study is the author's own experience of singing during the
teenage years. The study has been conducted through qualitative interviews with vocal
teachers, as well as through a focus group with two girls from a girls’ choir. The result
shows that vocal teachers have found methods and strategies to deal with problems that
may arise in connection with girls' voice change. These strategies include special vocal
exercises and focusing on specific areas of singing... (More)

shows that vocal teachers have found methods and strategies to deal with problems that
may arise in connection with girls' voice change. These strategies include special vocal
exercises and focusing on specific areas of singing technique. In addition, possible
disadvantages of classifying teenage girls’ voices as alto or soprano are also discussed.
The result also shows that vocal teachers have had to find these strategies by
themselves. Information and knowledge about girls' vocal development was not part of
their education, instead they needed to search information about it and learn how to deal
with it on their own. More knowledge about girls' vocal development is sought-after,
both by vocal teachers, but also by girls themselves who know very little about their
own vocal development. (Less)
