(2022) LAMP72 20221Malmö Academy of Music
- Abstract
- The purpose of this study has been to examine an educational material created by us, the authors, which breaks down the guitar’s tonal construction and decodes its’ asymmetry. The material was created with the ambition to make it easier for students to connect their musical knowledges to the guitar’s fretboard. In this study, we wanted to examine if this material has any relevance in different educational situations and find out if our reflections about the lack of material such as this in guitar education is corroborated by other guitarists´ experiences. In order to conduct this study, three methods were employed: survey, interviews and portfolios. The methods were designed from the study’s three scientific questions: How do the survey’s... (More)

In order to conduct this study, three methods were employed: survey, interviews and portfolios. The methods were designed from the study’s three scientific questions: How do the survey’s respondents visualize the tonal construction of the guitar’s fretboard? What are the survey’s respondents´ educational experiences regarding the tonal construction of the guitar´s fretboard? According to the interviews’ and portfolios’ informants, what relevance has our educational material for guitar teachers and guitar students in various educational situations? The material was evaluated during the interviews and applied during the portfolios. The study’s result showed that an educational material like our own was relevant and that the respondents' experiences regarding this subject differed. (Less)
