Abstract (Swedish)
(More)

(Less)
Abstract
During our internship we experienced EDI in ensemble teaching and our interest about EDI:s possibilities and limitations in ensemble arose. The purpose of the study aims to investigate; the experience and meaning of the instrument and how the instrument works in ensemble teaching in the high school's music program. The chapter Literature Review treats the evolution of music technology in the society and the school world, the modern music, musical experiences through new technology, the computer as a musical instrument in school music ensembles, instrument specific conditions for EDI and lastly the evolving role of the teacher.
The data have been collected through qualitative interviews with students and teachers from different schools in... (More)

The chapter Literature Review treats the evolution of music technology in the society and the school world, the modern music, musical experiences through new technology, the computer as a musical instrument in school music ensembles, instrument specific conditions for EDI and lastly the evolving role of the teacher.
The data have been collected through qualitative interviews with students and teachers from different schools in Skåne, Sweden. The result of the study shows a relatively unanimous meaning of the instrument (computer, DAW and controller). The experience of EDI in school music ensembles is affected greatly by the teacher’s prior knowledge, as the teacher has the opportunity to challenge the EDI-musician to reach a higher level of musicianship if they themselves understand the instrument. The possibilities and limitations of EDI in an ensemble context are intertwined as the instrument’s capacity is great and its framework is vague. The discussion explores thoughts on the place of EDI in a societal, social and musical context. (Less)
