Program 3, Season 24-25, OSCyL, Turno 1 : with Orquesta Sinfónica de Castilla y León

Hardenberger, Håkan LU and Gabel, Fabien (2024)
Abstract
At the start of this commemorative season, Orquesta Sinfónica de Castilla y León will pay tribute to Gabriel Fauré on the 100th anniversary of his death by performing his evocative Pelléas et Mélisande. They introduce two new names to our audience: the French conductor Fabien Gabel and the Swedish trumpet virtuoso Håkan Hardenberger, an international reference in trumpet performance. Hardenberger will perform the trumpet concerto Aerial by HK Gruber, written especially for him to explore the full technical capabilities of his instrument, featuring up to three different trumpets with extended techniques that involve singing and playing simultaneously. Hardenberger will perform the trumpet concerto Aerial by HK Gruber, written especially for him to explore the full technical capabilities of his instrument, featuring up to three different trumpets with extended techniques that involve singing and playing simultaneously. In the second part, Gabel brings us closer to the figure of Salome with two impressive works: the moment in which Richard Strauss describes the Dance of the Seven Veils in his opera Salome – in a version with reduced orchestration made by the composer himself – and La Tragédie de Salomé by Florent Schmitt. This work is said to have inspired Igor Stravinsky to write his The Rite of Spring, which we will hear later in this season.

Programme:

Gabriel Fauré: Pelléas et Mélisande - Suite für Orchester op. 80
HK (Heinz Karl) Gruber: AERIAL für Trompete und Orchester (Less)
