Second, this paper refers to the tendency to rely on AI to address societal challenges that are considered too complex for humans to comprehend as potential “AI solutionism.” It defines this approach as being based on an insufficient understanding of the operation and socio-environmental impacts of AI, arguing that these two aspects should be thoroughly analyzed by actors in global sustainability governance.
