This chapter also considers some of the ways in which universities are trying to appraise and reward engagement with teaching through a variety of reward mechanisms and promotion policies that focus on recognising teaching excellence, scholarship of teaching and learning, and leadership in learning and teaching as key performance areas. Finally, we consider some of the milestones that might typically characterise an academic career and how we can engage with respect to our career trajectory and promotion opportunities, as well as what to consider when constructing a teaching portfolio.
