Abstract
Eurhythmics in the public space? - a study of participation and experience in youth activities at some of Skåne's major music institutions.
The purpose of this study is to examine youth activities at a number of music institutions in Skåne, specifically how children and adolescents participate in concerts and musical events. Furthermore, the purpose is to examine how the institutions themselves describe their work vis-a-vis children's experience and participation; and in what way eurhythmics could contribute to increased possibilities for children and adolescents to participate in musical events. The study is based on three research questions:
In what ways do children and adolescents participate in youth concerts and musical events... (More)

The study is based on three research questions:
In what ways do children and adolescents participate in youth concerts and musical events arranged by the music institutions?
How do said institutions work with children's experience and participation in relation to concerts and events?
In what ways do representatives from the music institutions feel that incorporation of eurhythmics could further their work in regards to children's experience and participation?
The literature survey and the chapter regarding previous research serve as an introduction to eurhythmics. These chapters also present definitions of the terms participation and experience and accentuate the value of positive experiences, so called "golden moments". Additionally, they present earlier research and theories which specifically address the importance of activity
for the learning process. For this study, the youth activities of three major music institutions are examined through qualitative interviews with one employee from the each institution, as well as observationsfrom one concert or musical event at each of said institutions. The informants have shared their views on how to achieve a successful concert, and on participation, experience and eurythmics. At the concerts, children's active participation has been observed by studying the encouragement to such participation from the stage. The results show that children's active participation at concerts and musical events do not always correspond to the respective institutions' own ideals of children's participation. The results also show that there is a need to develop the value and variation of children's participation, and thus of their concert experience. Finally, the study discusses whether eurhythmics, through its approach to bodily experience, can increase the possibilities for participation in concerts/musical events. (Less)
Abstract (Swedish)

(Less)
