Promoting Professional Development Through Communities of Practice – an Example of Educational Development in Sweden

- This chapter explores the idea of community of practice in relation to Swedish educational development. Two authentic cases illustrate how faculty developers work together as a CoP to promote change within universities. The two cases and their results are scrutinized in relation to key features of CoP, where one case arguably came out stronger as a CoP mainly in terms of identity building. The text concludes by summarizing some keys to success when communities of practice approaches are used in professional development.
